The Incredible Human Eye
The iris, the most visible part of the vertebrate eye, is composed of pigmented bundles of fibrous tissue. Darker eyes have many granules of pigment within the iris, while blue or albino eyes may have none. The word iris comes from ancient Greek mythology, in which Iris was the personification of the rainbow.
Rankin is a British portrait and fashion photographer whose notable subjects have spanned from Kate Moss to the Queen. The following intriguing and beautiful series of photos, however, features the artist's friends, family, and colleagues as subjects. In this exhibition called "Eyescapes", Rankin has created large-scale images featuring only the iris of his subjects' eyes. I think that the results speak for themselves.
